Why we provide this service
Every year, thousands of domain names associated with academic and professional events are allowed to expire by the original event organiser. In many cases, the domain name is immediately acquired by a 'cybersquatter' and used to host an alternative website promoting a variety of products and services (often of a dubious nature) to existing web traffic.
Often hundreds or sometimes thousands of hyperlinks to the original event's domain name remain active on other websites and online visitors continue to attempt to access the event's website long after the event has concluded and the domain name has been allowed to expire - only to be now confronted by a totally unrelated website.
In some instances, this 'redirection' of existing web traffic has the potential to cause significant damage to the image and reputation of the original event organiser, particularly in cases where the new website is used to promote adult products or services, or is used as a launching pad for intrusive attacks on the computer of the visitor trying to access the website

What we can offer
DomainSafe offers a free, long-term domain name management service designed to safeguard the reputation of event organisers by ensuring that 'unwanted', expiring domain names are not able to be acquired by potential cybersquatters.
DomainSafe will:
 |
take over ownership and management of the domain name |
 |
continue to renew the domain name for a period of up to ten years |
 |
provide web hosting services for the domain name for a period of up to ten years |
 |
create a new 'landing page' for the domain name advising that the event has been concluded and the event website is no longer available online; or |
 |
create an archive copy of the event's website and continue to host it at the existing domain name |
| |
|
These services are provided completely free of charge to event organisers - thanks to the ongoing generosity of our sponsors who provide DomainSafe with a range of domain name registration, web hosting and virtual office services.
If you are the registered owner of a domain name that was acquired for an academic or professional event and no longer wish to continue with the ongoing renewal process, please contact us to find out more about how DomainSafe can help with the long-term management of your 'unwanted' domain name. |
